As a piano player, you are inevitably confronted with the subject of fingering when rehearsing new music. In beginner literature, which is often in the 5-note range, a lot of things are still automatic and self-explanatory. Here you are primarily occupied with learning the notes, the fingers are only placed in one position. However, if the range extends beyond 5 notes, it becomes trickier. The fingers are never “enough” and you have to think carefully about how to place them in order to get through the piano piece as “accident-free” as possible. The teacher then often notes down the fingerings, which are set according to certain rules.
